Title: THE WAR
Post by: Kyro on 8 July 2012, 11:33:15 PM
 Hi all,

This is just a preliminary update on one of the projects the Admins are working on.

We are planning to have a weekly or monthly server event - A WAR between two kingdoms we are currently constructing involving everyone who signs up (we'll later have a sign up page or building in the server).

The war will end when either a number of cities have been captured or one main objective has been reached (TBD).

This will include:
- everyone involved being randomly conscripted to one of the teams
- teleporting soldiers into the warzone (which you cannot leave until the end)
- all warps will be disabled and inventories temporarily cleared
- no cheating (such as flying or damage mods will be serverely punished [including mods/admins]).
- there will be a setup stage where people can farm food and craft weapons for an amount of time and then the war will go on for however long it takes.

The hope is that everyone - casual members and hardcore ones will participate as there will be rewards for doing so.
... And bigger rewards for winning or being MVP of the battle.

Since this is in the developing stages I'm looking forward to everyones imput, but do not expect this to be ready for quite some time.

- Kyromine

I am slightly crestfallen about this Idea.
If I wanted to play a war game I would join a hard core PvP Server. I honestly never even thought of VillageCraft doing something like this.
I hope it is something you have to sign up for, Because I would be extremely vexed if I was forced into something like this.
My opinion has room for change, Everything is taken into consideration.
However I currently dislike this idea.

I think he was pretty clear that you will be able to sign up for this, as in it is an optional opt-in only event that will take place sometimes. :)

I may suck at PvP but this sounds like a great idea. ;D Can't wait!

I'm glad my property is non-PVP, lol. Provided the event is opt-in, I see no issues with it. It sounds like a good way for the people anxious for serious PVP to get some action, and I know there are a few people like that. The event sounds great to me, although I may just watch on the sidelines. :P

This is going to be an amazing event, since the pvp will probobly be better than a pvp server... because there will be fully made kingdoms to fight in,,, not some shitty buildings underground hidden and crap like that. This will have full castles, buildings, towers, secrets, and more!

Will Be Awesome!!!

Will there be spectator's boxes? I'd love to watch the events from a safe perch, lol.

We could possibly add bystanding areas, Perhaps :P

This sounds pretty good, considering we already half did this with the Elf/Human/Nord/Dwarf war.

Currently undecided about this. I enjoyed building the fortress' but the I joined this server as it was somewhat vanilla style village based.
This stupid elf/human and "Gods" sh*t gets on my nerves as it completely contradicts the main theme of the server; villages.
I'm with Aida on this, as long as we're not forced into it, it won't worry me.

Don't worry, this is an optional event and it will be a rare treat. By no means are we trying to alter the village-style of the server. For those who do not want to participate we will look into building spectating zones or other roles (such as perhaps refereeing the war and noting captured areas), though this is optional as well obviously.

I love enforcing rules! Can I be a referee? Lol.

Excellent. I can draft a set of rules really quick if you're interested.

Ako's come up with some awesome guidelines that we've written down over Steam - this is shaping up to be a seriously intense event! I'm starting to want to join in myself, lol.

I would not mind Reffing with "The_Doctor" (and others of course).

Also, It should be a 1V1V1

Team A Vs Team B Vs Team Digdug

Dig gets a team of all skeleton archers 1/2 as big as the Smallest of Teams A or B

I would pay to see this

We could get factions for an event like this. If I remove the land claiming feature and restrict creating factions to admins/mods, I think factions is perfect for this. With factions we can create a faction for each kingdom or even various allied factions inside each kingdom. Factions is also perfect to make friendly fire impossible.

Features that make factions perfect for this kind of event:
- A faction home that users can access with /f home
- Faction/allies only chat that users can access with /f c f for faction chat and /f c a for ally chat
- The power to turn off friendly fire between members of the same factions and allies.
- A prefix [TAG] that distinguishes faction members.
- We can also have peaceful factions for referees and spectators. Members of a peaceful faction can´t harm or be harmed.

Factions would obviously be managed by admins to avoid any kind of cheating.

Most of you already know the factions plugin so this list is obviously for the ones that don't lol.

As with all plugins, we can customize permissions for different groups.

I like this, although I don't think the reigioning needs to be removed, necessarily. This is good to handle faction delineation and prevention of friendly fire issues, but Ako was very specific (at least to me) that he wished there to only be a small region for each team to be able to build in, and that the rest of the land remain mostly untouched. This sounds like it could run into issues with that.

Otherwise, I love the idea. Good for communication and team management.

Factions ftw. Sounds good to me, with no land claiming, and only admins control the important features (like creating factions and homes).

Islid: this takes care of the respawning we were talking about, as each faction member can just go to their respective /f home.

This plugin might work really well for this type of event. I'll be very clear on this though: if we get it (and I'm thinking we will), factions will only be used for the opt-in server events we run, NOT for regular VillageCraft play.

So I guess pre-built bases? That sounds like it will work.

Without going into trouble with the faction thing, to get rid of friendly fire EASILLY, all we have to do is get our kingdoms team in a bunch, and I guess line em up, and pm them a random party name, and they can join it, and tell everyone there it, so friendly fire doesn't happen and it is very easy to do so.

P.S joining a party takes off for ppl in the party, that's why if one team is in one big party, it would = no friendly fire

still might look at the pvp-arena plugin as it will allow coming and going but your items from outside would be stored automacticaly. Also allows groups and stuff also.
