Title: Trying to solve server lag - Chunk Loaders
Post by: Akomine on 19 October 2013, 03:15:52 PM
We have an unusually large amount of chunks open when they should not be.
Luis, searching for reasons why, informed me there could be chunk loaders on VillageCraft.

They essentially force chunks to stay open by pushing things through Nether portals.

Let us know if you have one or have seen one. We want to check them out and see if they are causing lag or not.

Basic example of the mechanism:

I have a redstone one. It doesn't load the whole chunk, only the 10 or so blocks that are redstone.

1) Witch! Your back? I assume your computer is fixed?

2) What is the point of a chunk loader? Like what is the point? I know it is to keep chunks loaded. But why the heck do you need unused loaded chunks?

3) Do not comment on the fact that I posted a post that some idiots might not think has a use, cos I am asking a question.

I think chunkloaders are used to keep mob farms producing mobs even when there are no players near.

That's not chunk loaders, it's the derpy world generator spawning a desert, and a lake near it and not updating the sand blocks around it when it spawns...
