As a cultural phenomenon rap is kinda cool, to be able to come up with lyrics for those rap battles, requires a fast mind. Actually encourages good vocabulary too. Rap "music" on the other hand is shit, since you lose that competitiveness. What you are left with is dumb lyrics that don't have meaning over some shit beat that sounds bad.

It is just my opinion as a musician that this "music" is terrible and offensive to my ears. The lyrics are autistic.
One of the worst things about growing up is randomly remembering something cringe worthy you did that makes you shudder and ruins your day. This will be that memory you will hate someday.
I'll stop giving you shit because I feel like this is the same as trying to decide what is and isn't art. But if these songs were a painting it would show Osama Bin Laden getting double penetrated by the twin towers with shit seeping out his asshole while Bush and Obama (somehow 9/11 is his fault too) jerk off.

I am a fan of Hopsin, and have been for a year or so. You're so close to crossing into StrangeMusic territory, which I highly recommend. And for the argument of rap having no real meaning in the lyrics, look at Hopsin's album "Knock Madness". There are many songs which have a deep meaning, and are not just "nigger nigger drugs nigger". Look at the songs "old friend" and "Gimmie That Money". He talks about how since he has gotten big, he is no longer seen as a person, but an image that people EXPECT him to keep. He is no longer Marcus, but Hopsin. He is not valued as himself, and people dont treat him as a thing. His only purpose now is to keep cranking out music that has no meaning, only a good beat and funny lines. He wants to speak to the public and teach the youth, but songs like this don't sell. To have any impact, he needs songs that bring in a crowd.
One line from "Tears to snow":
Hopsin: I'm about to lock myself in my basement and dig my grave inside, all jokes aside I see no reason to stay alive. If I do it, I wont even say goodbye.

Edit: also, Eminem, Snoop, Beasties, and Outkast all have musical elements and not just basic computer program beats that I could probably go make on my own with little experience. Especially Outkast, fucking talented musician Andre is.
