The day-night cycle in Minecraft is usually 20 minutes:
- 10 min day
- 1.5 min dusk
- 7 min night
- 1.5 min dawn
We have doubled the length of the day-night cycle to 40 minutes, so now on VC it's:
- 20 min day
- 3 min dusk
- 14 min night
- 3 min dawn
That means about 26 minutes of mob-free daylight to build, explore, and do anything you need to do. This should be a lot more time to do what you need in a day. The night is a bit longer now too, so beware of that. To balance this, the crazy mobspawning rates we were seeing have been lowered quite a lot. It should be a lot fairer now.
You'll notice the sun, moon, and stars move through the sky a lot slower now. I think it feels pretty nice this way. Please let us know what you think.

What about pigmen spawn rates, are they lowered?

Unfortunately, yes. There's no easy way to fine tune spawning per world/mob.
I suppose it's possible to make a plugin which would do this. However, that plugin is backburner, at the moment.

I've noticed , not sure if it's linked. But when I'm playing alone and I try to sleep I wake up and it's still night time

This is probably a bug. I'll look into it when I have some time. Work has been crazy.

For some reason the old time system is back. I timed how long night was and it was 7 minutes.
