Title: Casual Poll: Resource Packs
Post by: luisc99 on 5 September 2018, 08:57:05 AM
I've been looking into different things that are possible in modern Minecraft, especially now 1.13 added a whole bunch of new stuff that's possible. I was wondering if people would be open to a very small resource pack for VC. I've not finalised anything yet, so I'm just doing this to see if there's enough interest to spend my time trying to add stuff with one.

It wouldn't override anything already in the game, so all the textures etc will be the same (until Mojang roll out their new textures (https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Texture_Update)). All it'd add is small things like sounds or additions to make the gameplay that bit more interesting. Since about 1.3 there's been the option to have a server texture/resource pack, so it'd very simple to use from a player's perspective. It's just clicking "accept" once and it'll keep ip updated.

What do people think?

Sounds like a great idea! Will make our server that little more unique!  :D
I presume if one wanted to, they could always override the server and use ones own? (I like to use Conquest Texture pack to test the look of my village, as it ultimately is built with this in mind, though is sometimes heavy on my old machine so i do not use it all the time).

Thanks to the way resource packs work, you can choose the order of preference the game picks them in. You can quite easily set the pack you normally use (eg. Conquest) as the top priority, and let the VC pack fill in the blanks below it. There's nothing to worry about there.

I'd like to stress though that the pack wouldn't change anything. I know some people don't like resource packs, and I don't want them to be excluded by having a pack filled with changes. The only thing the pack would do is add new things. New sounds, new music, new items (kinda). That way, even if you had the VC pack on the top of the list, whatever texture pack you use normally would still be the one deciding all the textures and stuff.
