Title: vote cretes for the new spawn and gui for info.
Post by: Theologist_Green on 29 March 2020, 06:08:52 PM
cd was helping out with the new spawn by the church. I was thinking we can add vote cretes over there with good rewards for voting. Also updating the vote sites so they use more updated ones and ones that are more popular. A good 3-4 good ones should be enough. Also having the vote cretes themselfs be able to unlock higher ones like you would have a chance to unlock a key for a better crete taht has better stuff. Also being able to trade keys could be cool for the economy.

I a m not to good with looking for plugins, but some sort of plugin where you just do /info or something like that and it pulls up a menu with infomaiton for new players about things similar to the /village and commands we have like rn.

Think it was meant to be crates, not cretes xD, just an unfortunate typo that was continuously done

We do, I think he just wants to make redeeming them easier maybe? And possibly better rewards. @Theologist_Green, any comments?

Yah that is what I meant. I wasn't actually even aware that they were a thing. Though I know we had like something where we did /vote. But for more new players I imagine there would be familiar with a system wherein you do /vote the vote gets announced in chat and you either get a key you redeem or get a crate or cash right away.

crates has been suggested before, I used to really like the idea but now a days I see a crate system as a pay to win kind of method of rewarding players. but if done through voting it could be cool as long as that is the ONLY way to get crate keys.

Yah, of course, you won't be able to get crate keys any other way. Its vote crates for that reason. This would be most less maintenance too hopefully instead having our own plugin as well.

We would still need a plugin

+1 and a bump for this idea.

I'm in the middle of coding a new voting plugin, and wanted to get some input on this. Is there a reason you'd favour crates as rewards, over simply just receiving items? My plugin works by automatically giving you the item when you vote (or next log in), so there's no claiming you have to do. Was wondering if the crates is still something that's desired?

If I'm coding this, I might as well make it the way you all want it. Give me ideas!

Here's my POV on the matter:
1: Crates/Crate Keys, are a tradable commodity, as opposed to just voting rewards that are handed out. This has some interesting effects economically.
2: Something common across crate plugins I've seen is a animation of sorts when you open a crate & if you get something cool it tends to get announced. This makes the voting process more interesting and can help incentivize players beyond simply receiving the rewards.

And now a suggestion:
A system that I've seen work on a few other servers is as follows:
1: There are two crates, a vote crate and a "high" crate(name subject to change)
2: Voting gets keys for vote crate.
3: Vote crate has keys to high crate, though very rare.
4: You can also buy high crate keys using IRL money.

I think adopting a system similar to this would be an interesting idea, and could help bring additional revenue to the server. As for making the server "pay to win", I would like to make a few points.

Firstly: What, exactly, is the win condition for minecraft? how do you win at villagecraft?

Secondly: Not all forms of monetization are pay to win. There are a few notable examples in certain games, but a well crafted system can avoid pay to win. One possibility: make high crate rewards not affect pvp, meaning no Prot V armor/Sharp VI swords or what not. I think if one is careful in putting together a system, it can be decidedly not pay-to-win.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll see what I can do

Firstly, considering you could class this as a purchase rather than a donation, I'm pretty sure this is against Mojang's EULA. Putting that aside though, I'm personally not all that keen on adding rewards that you can buy with IRL money. You say it's not "pay-to-win", but you're paying money to win a reward. Considering you wouldn't know what the reward itself is until after you've paid, some would call it gambling, but I'm not going to get into that. To me, that is very much a pay-to-win system, and would be in effect microtransactions which most people find annoying in other games.

I'm all in favour of adding rewards for voting, I think that's a great idea. I wouldn't be against adding in a reward as an additional donor perk to each of our ranks. It could also be a good idea to have the rewards used for other things too, like VcGames prizes, building comp prizes, etc. However, I don't think offering rewards in exchange for money would be setting the right tone for the server. Yes, we do rely on donations to keep the server running, but letting people buy what are essentially lottery tickets personally doesn't feel right to me.

I think crates are a good thing, perhaps even cyphur's idea, but change from irl money to ig money so there is another money sink? We could include cool items or specialty potions like frog suggested in there. That would be a cool way to spend some money as well I think.

Yea, I like this idea. Could allow players to spend money on things other than houses (that many don't use).

You could even spend different amounts on different levelled crates - what I mean is if you pay $5,000 you have like a 20% chance of the crate having something really cool and rare or expensive in it, or $15K could be a 30% or 50K could be like 50%.

Just an idea, though not sure how appealing it is to other players in the community.

I would prefer to keep the game as vanilla and unobtrusive to new players as possible. Once you start doing CS:GO plugins we lose a lot of appeal as a simple server about making villages.

We are already far from a vanilla server

Thats partially true, but its about how the server is assessed by new players, if we have "Crates" then it might turn people off from playing due to the perception of a highly specialized and hard to grasp game play. It just seems like an unnecessary addition with difficult coding for a novelty.

this is a good point, i do somewhat agree with this point. but at the same time, I don't think it's that deep son

TheoGreen found this plugin: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/cratesplus-free-crates-plugin-1-7-1-14-2.5018/?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=cd5a92ae2cd5ac60bb89d7247d09f50fdf8061ec-1586358415-0-AdBugf6J36FUQblggd2RcBxpEf-g_403K8K5oU2p_XX3QKoKWQ7EhONlUAR57pBfbd9LJ63QPJnVN9_Z7107d87boF2tmLTriKF9rofR1ZJJ86HfIH8jWkwp_Ct12e1BmLePqzyZHbdoJuCCBAkHsJa7S35aR2cBYYvuT7fwB56OutIQ0mDg_TvC7HQuZD53RtZWgRMX0FHAGAQmv4rUHcMvuZGfaSIvyqjzFDjWTdx6XK1j27EYDZi6qal7bD7iiMxhhLRpZiEMIW-iKSfJr1aaWnpCaQS-2ZpDWeYGoYs_-C4pIqI1MWgfg6mVy0i4sR8qxNAGc2pUpoM_34U8l1C02PrmMAnW6Q50KE_fS-Pc

I am not skilled with testing these things, but if someone wanted to and would give us a feedback or opinions, that would be neat!

A lot of other servers do this in a nonintrusive way and by no means is it out of place for other servers. We can configure it however we like so the mods and staff will ultimately have the final say on what goes in there. The main idea is we need to update and promote server voting. Vote parties are another example of ways severs do that. Like everyone votes increases a counter when it goes off everyone gets a point or some effect for some period of time.
