Title: What age does someone reach middle-aged?
Post by: Naomi on 25 September 2020, 07:04:44 PM
I'm having an ongoing debate on what age you reach middle age.

I personally think 40.
Middle Aged is a demographic age that people reach at 40
The average lifespan in the US is 80 so half of that is 40.

Someone keeps arguing with me that middle-aged is 35
Answer the pole and debate below and settle the argument

From a maths point of view, I'd say between 30 and 50 is thr "middle age" range. Average life expectancy around here is ~82, so 40ish being would be the middle.

I saw that mainly because 20s feels like a "young adult" still, and I'd probably group 50-65 and then 65+, but those are more based on society setting age bounds for things (50 for a flu jab, 65 for a free bus pass, etc)

To bring it back to your debate, I wouldn't consider 35 as THE middle age, but I'd put 35 in the "middle aged" group
