General Discussion / Manorville Renovation Now Underway!
« on: 30 July 2015, 10:16:58 PM »
A former NPC village/emerald farm Manorville has been abandoned for quite some time. Wheat fields full with old wheat, and cocoa beans overripe on the vine

With the newly completed Solace-Manorville Express, goods have been able to reach this remote village to supply and rebuild.

Several Train cars left loaded up with hay bales, and crates of cocoa beans, while carts loaded with building materials constantly arrive to keep the building running.

As of tonight, a new crane has finally been erected to help move carts on and off the tracks to assist with traffic.

A late night shipment even included dozens of gold blocks for the special toilet custom ordered for the owners unusual sensibilities.

We hope to have our first prefabs arriving over the next week and will commence construction of the residential sector.

More news to come in the following weeks

just to add to the fun, i seemed to start to glitch through the world when fighting with whoever this character was. i was travelling at speeds well over 100blocks per second, and according to my client am under bedrock level. not sure if i want to log back in as it may just be a clientside glitch, but id rather not die and lose all my items due to falling out of the world. if any staff are on, is it possible to tp me above bedrock, as i have extremely valuble items on me atm

as you can see, many rails were removed. unfortunately logblock does not show who did it :/  rails, cobble fences, and redstone lamps were all griefed, mostly in the neighborhood of - 800, -1580.

thanks for your time,

OKAY. I'LL TEST OUT THE ARROWS THAT IGNORE WORLDGUARD COMMANDS ON MANHATTAN TO MAKE SURE OPS CAN'T USE THEM. OH, ALSO, DOUBLE THE CONFUSION ARROW'S DURATION EFFECT, IT'S DEFAULT IS TOO SHORT.

just my two cents, but the fact that you give the player confusion(an effect not normally available in vanilla) what is a proper time? just having a combo splash pot and arrow is pretty op, but to make long durations would be really op, and game breaking imho

General Discussion / Re: Are Obsidian Generators banned?
« on: 15 February 2013, 05:08:00 PM »
I'm perfectly fine with people using them to get obsidian for construction.
Maybe the sell price reduction is good.

if you look at most items in the market, the sell price and the buy price are different by about 20-40% depending on the item. obsidian however is a 87.5% price reduction(200 vs 25) for selling to the shop, i though this originally was just for that reason.... to lower the price due to players using obsidian gens

i have built several for other players as part of my redstone construct shop, cj had one in atlantis, and i had a staff member ask me pricing to have me build one for them.

are all of these structures banned and need to be destroyed?

just to add my two cents you can delete this if you want, but here goes...

As you can see, the chest(s) Mossy is talking about do exist.
However, because he was taking a lot of stuff out at the same time, it seems that the log block only kept track of a certain number.

Not sure what to do in this situation, so I leave it up to you, my dearest staff members.

No nigga, log block logs it all so I call bullshit again. I say...case closed. Lock her up, ma'am

if logblock logs it all, where does it show when the items were added? i can show you plenty of cases where i place chests, and fill them up to the degree where you cannot see when the chest was actually placed etc.

a logblock undo can show what was originally in the chest and i wouldn't be surprised if the items were originally there

General Discussion / Life the Universe and Everything, but mostly Life
« on: 29 January 2013, 05:25:25 PM »
due to the fact that the new semester has started, and i am also working a semi full time job, i do not have time to play MC as much as i would otherwise.

as a result, i am hearby no longer going to be playing VC full time.

i will log on every once in a while(once a week-once a month), as i have made some friends on the server, but as of tommorow i will no longer be on regularly

i do plan to keep all of my gold and inventories, although if you need something specific i might be willing to give items away to those that i know and like on the server.

it was a great ride from my first days as SouthsideNewts to braingkk to co-owner of Greystone Estates to owner of a decent Arena on the server.

i wish all my friends and acquaintances a happy time on the server, and i wish you all the best in you own lives.

if you think that i might want to get in touch with you using a means other then these forums and on the server, you can pm me your contact info and i might add you to my contact lists (note some ppl will NOT be added under any circumstances: couch cough you know who you are)

overall its been a great run, and i wish you all the best

special note to sax: tho i dont like you much, i still wish you the best in life as well.

to the staff, thanks for all you have done, i wont forget all the fun times we have had, as well as the arguments and disagreements we have had.

ako its been a great ride, you have been a great person to play on the same server as, and i wish you and the server the best of success.

air as much as we make fun of you and manhattan, it def is a nice work of art, and i suggest you give official tours of the basement: it is rly cool to look at.

cay we the players love and really appreciate the long nights you pulled to be online when most of the staff is not. i will miss you

jan thanks for the times you helped me out with my wonderful glitch exploit tests as well as significant assistance with my showcases both as southsidenewts and as braingkk

bl4ck its nice to know that a young staff member as you could be so helpful and creative, it was great being on the same server as you

rune although i dont really know you, i do know that you try to do the best you can, and i respect the effort you have put into the server even when i might have disagreed with your methods at times

aida im sorry for all the times that i made typos and reminded you of rainy, may you continue to be a great staff member

aysun i dont know you much at all, but i do thank you for your work on some of the large building projects on the server, you did well(note you are missing a piece of glowstone on the qualia-skycastle line)

all the other staff members i missed none of you are insignificant, but i dont know you enough to say the right things, i wish you all the best

knite, jord, kovos, catty, sir logic, brad, chaos, star it has been great playing on the server with you all, and i wish you all a great time. may all your villages prosper, and may all your testificates eat lots of cheese

to everyone else have fun playing on the server it is a great server at times and a royal pain at others but overall i do not regret the time spent on the server. i have gained many 'friends' (tho most will forget about me in 6 months anyway) and i have had alot of fun building all the wierd structures that i have.

ok.. time to stop rambling.....

love y'all and cya whenever i log on next

General Discussion / Re: News: Less rollbacks, less minecarts
« on: 28 January 2013, 09:28:42 AM »
just my 2 cents, but if the plugin only clears loaded chunks, and most of the minecarts sitting around are not in loaded chunks, wont it be more of a hassle then a boon?

that said it prob will help at locations like gerudo exchange where it is sorta close to civilization, but even there it isnt always loaded if my assumption is correct that the server only loads 8 chunks

We are doing it specifically for stations that get carts backing up the lines. A chunk is 16x16 blocks if i remember correctly, and the server has WAY more than 8 loaded at a time. I'm not sure if you have access, but try typing /lag and it will tell you exactly how many chunks are loaded.
Carts deep in the outlands between towns, just sitting on the rails in unloaded chunks are perhaps annoying, but not that big a deal. You can often just push them to the next station where they can go get deleted.

based on what i know about servers, the average radius of loaded chunks per player ranges from 6-15 chunks in each direction. that said, yes more then just 8 total per player, rather 162 per player, or 256 chunks per player

now i dont have access to the /lag command so i cannot say for sure how many chunks are loaded at any given point in time, but even if we are on the far end of the scale with a 15 chunk radius,(approximately 240 block radius) there still will be plenty of times when the jam points aren't loaded.

i do support the minecart removal, as i have experienced the jams at times, but im not sure if it really will help much

Reports & Grievances / hobbes13
« on: 27 January 2013, 09:00:54 PM »

as you can see, hobbes broke open the wall of one house,
broke several cane from a farm,
broke open a wall,
broke a nice looking foreplace,
and also broke down the doors to a house.

now all these are technically small things, but all together it adds up to knowlegeable grief.

according to what i was told he decided to grief/pvp with several people busy building a village (an actually nice looking one so far) and in the proccess wreaked havoc with the said villagers.

i was asked to post here the logs of what he did, and i must mention that the villagers went and rebuilt much of what was griefed, as they do want their village to look nice. if asked i can show what and where ill be more then happy to, tho the logs show enough

Do not break into people's houses for any reason what-so-ever, even if you replace the blocks behind you.
does this only apply to breaking blocks? what if i use ender pearls to glitch in through doors or trap doors? what if the door is open? or does this only apply to snooping with intent to kill?

just for the fun of it, im gunna bring in some posts form a recent thread in the reports section.

There isn't much left to do then.
While stealing wasn't a very nice thing to do, Jared should have been cautious with the locks.

Quote from: Kovos_Datch
Seems pretty straightforward then. Jared was lazy and didn't want to change the lock... therefore the responsibility is solely on Jared.

as seen in these quotes from the abovementioned thread, player Hobbes did not get punished for taking items from an unlocked chest. he might have been kicked from the village, but that has little to do with the actual server rules as much as village leaders deciding its not a good idea to have such a member around

can i assume based on this that a player breaks no server rules by raiding player chests even in a protected village?

CHEQUE
And for a track length of [rounded up to include help on VCR North] 2,000 metres, with a x25 bonus for ever metre:

dunno 'bout you, but while im at it digging my grave, if i add 1,940 + 528 i get alot closer to 2,500 then 2,000

now im sorry for the wall of text, but i was mad, and quite pissed off to say the least.
i was informed that when the calculations were made, only loaded chunks were calculated(a worldedit error) and so the estimation was off by abit or alot depending on how you look at it.

i apologize for my rant a the end of the last post, but i will leave it there as i stand by my previous statement.

thanks to those that actually read through my wall of text, and thanks to those that calculated my rails for rechecking their calculations

REIMBURSEMENT
For contributing to VillageCraft's public-access paths or railroads, the server hereby reimburses Braingkk for the materials used:
Solace Express (Solace to VCR North) = $8197.50
VillageCraft Railway North = $1,250
Subtotal = $9,447.50

CHEQUE
And for a track length of [rounded up to include help on VCR North] 2,000 metres, with a x25 bonus for ever metre:
Solace Express = 50,000 with an added earlybird bonus, labour bonus, and design bonus of x3 = $150,000
Subtotal = $150,000.00

To be delivered to Braingkk in solid gold:
Grand Total = $159,447.50
+ a set of diamond armour and tools, with any enchantments on any 1 of the items.
Thank you!

-------
Develop infrastructure or make a claim for your contributions to public-access VillageCraft roads or rails today!
We reimburse for all materials and will also pay for some roads/paths, and will pay for almost all rails that connect to the VCRailway network.
Brain's paycheque includes bonuses for long length, good design, and for being one of the first to do it.

ok here is my basic mathematical run of things, correct me if im wrong in any way.

the initial raised rail runs 1940 blocks.
it has 103 pillars supporting it, each said pillar has
  • 6 powered rail ($600)
  • 2 detector rails ($22)
  • 2 redstone lamps (8 redstone ($48) 2 glowstone block ($20))
  • 1 redstone torch (1 redstone ($6) 1 stick(1/8th of a log ($0.12))

so each pillar cost $696.12, multiply that by 103 pillars you get $71,700.36

now for the full length of the elevated track there is
  • 2 gravel ($0.50 each or $1)
  • 2 cobble ($0.20 each or $0.40)
  • 2 cobble stairs ($0.60 3 cobble per 2 stairs)
  • 2 cobble wall ($0.40)
so each basic block cross section cost $2.40, multiplied by 1,940 blocks (still raised section only) for $4,656

in  addition on flat zones inside the tunnel, and when at ground level there was additional lighting in the form of
  • 2 redstone lamps (8 redstone ($48) 2 glowstone block ($20))
  • 1 redstone torch (1 redstone ($6) 1 stick(1/8th of a log ($0.12))
at a cost of $74.12 each, with 24 instances costing a total of $1,778.88

there were 3 slopes in the raised rail, with a total of
  • 26 powered rail ($2,600)
  • 1 detector rail ($11)
totaling at $2,611

we figure the pillars (8 rails*103 pillars) 824 rails and the powered rails from the slopes (26 powered 1 detector) 27 rails totaling 851 nonstandard rail
now as said the whole raised line was 1940 blocks,  so double that for full length at 3880 rails, subtract the 851 nonstandard rail totaling 3,029 standard rail
  • 3,029 rails ($3.25 each totaling $9,844.25)

so
  • pillar cost $71,700.36
  • basic block cost $4,656
  • additional lighting cost $1,778.88
  • slopes cost $2,611
  • standard rail cost $9,844.25
totaling the raised rails at $90,590.49
(note this does not calculate the extra stairs and blocks used in the pillars as well as walls used on flat stretches, nor do we factor in digging costs for the tunnel extending over 150 blocks underground)

now the n/s rail made by me extended 528 blocks. due to the fact that my efforts were removed before any calculations were made, i will post based off what i know for a fact i made, and will ignore the cost incurred by powered rail for the slopes.

the pattern was
  • 16 standard rail($3.25 each at $52)
  • 1 detector rail ($11)
  • 3 powered rail ($300)
at a cost of $363 repeating every 20 blocks of course

each block of rail had
  • 3 oak planks ($0.75 or 3/4ths of a log
  • 1 gravel ($0.50)
at a cost of $1.75 a block.

now for simplicities sake we will assume the n/s section was only 520 blocks so we do not stray over the base cost, as we are speculating in cost of 20's
520 blocks *2 for both directions totaling at 1,040 blocks
1,040/20=52 rail repetitions
52*$363 totaling at $18,876
now for the blocks underneath the tracks
520 block*$1.75 totaling at $910

so total tentative cost for the n/s rail totals in at $19,786

all totaling in at
  • raised rail cost $90,590.49
  • tentative n/s rail cost $19,786
totaling in at $110,376.49

now i am quite happy to be reimbursed for my extreme amount of time and expense in building the rails and the 'cheque' (check for those americans among us) does cover my base cost, but i think that you might want to try and calculate the cost once more, as my math does not match 100% with yours...

Edit:corrected typo

Well the Solace Extension is now connected to the Qualia Nothern Mail Line.

   1) ride north through Skycastle
   2) continue north past Gerudo Exchange, (thats what i call the station where Gerudo splits off the main line)
   3) continue along to the Raised Rail Express Line to Solace.

Directions from Solace to Qualia:
   1) ride west along the Raised Rail Express Line and south on the main north/south line until Gerudo Exchange
   2)continue south to Skycastle Station

basic question: you live in a village, and there are unlocked chests, can you raid them?

does the chests location change the policy?

does the contents of the chest change the rule? (i.e. if it has several stacks of diamonds u cant touch it)

i recall some discussion in the past, and no real decision, so here it is, opinions and thought welcome, at least until the staff weigh in with a definitive answer
