Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Let's Get to Know Each Other! #2
« on: 11 October 2020, 02:58:05 PM »
It's hard to pick one. Typically I'd say The Martian as a general movie, although I always enjoy watching Snowden so that'd be high up on the list too. Recently though The Way He Looks made me cry a bit, so that might have to be one of my favourite emotional movies.

What's one city outside of their own country the next poster would love to visit?

I recently found out that I have some family that lives in Saariselkä, Lapland (northern Finland). It'd be really cool to go up there in the winter to cross country ski, or see the northern lights. I've always been a sucker for northern towns : P

What's the next poster's favourite hobby / pastime?

I'm down! Is it decided whether or not there would be teams (or if everyone would need to be a on a team)?

General Discussion / Re: VC meetup? Revote
« on: 13 July 2020, 10:50:22 PM »
I mean, I'm still in high school, & it would be a pretty substantial travelling time/cost for all of those places. I'd love to go to a meetup in a few years, once I have some more freedom to travel, though.

5
I mean, I don't know how much use it will get, but I'm for it. Would add something interesting to the server for the new update.

I really only got to know Theo in the last few months. Rest in Peace, man.

Not going to lie, the games I play are not really that interesting. I really have only played Online Chess, Minecraft and Hearts with my family in the past year. I've also been writing a lot, though.

This is looking pretty unanimous lol

Perhaps the repercussions should scale before outright disabling the farm. It would probably be best not to ban players that offend repeatedly, but a temporary region seizure could be in order.

Would something like this work?:

First offence - kick & warning;
Second offence - kick & warning;
Third offence - disablement;
Fourth offence - temp seizure of region.

It may also be prudent to include a clause where if the person was there afking before player count reached 5, then whatever action is taken isn't counted against them? As much as I like this rule, I don't want my farm seized over the fact that I was afk when 4 other people joined

True, just wanted some scalability to make sure that it's not too hard on people that are first offenders. I guess the 4th offence punishment is a bit harsh.

Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Reset the Nether in 1.16 DISCUSSION
« on: 6 April 2020, 05:14:40 PM »
I remember hearing something from another server where they had reset all the chunks in the world that had not been loaded for more than an hour to reduce disk space. I think this, if implementable, would be a useful way to keep older, more developed areas intact while freeing up some other places near spawn without much infrastructure.. While I would have no idea how to implement it (@luisc99 might be able to help some), I would think that this could be a good way of striking a balance of sorts.

I guess I worded that quite vaguely... I meant that if those chunks had been loaded for a total of less than an hour in their existence, they would be reset.

Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Reset the Nether in 1.16 DISCUSSION
« on: 6 April 2020, 11:53:46 AM »
As someone who maintains more than one farm in the nether, I feel that I should at least have some input here. As of right now, I have 3 things I have built that I would prefer survive a nether reset, also I have punched a rather large hole in the nether ceiling using the 1.12 dragon egg trick that I quite like and would prefer to keep, whether this means having a staffer just WE in a new hole or something can be addressed later.

I am entirely open to working with staff to help ensure my constructions remain unharmed should the nether be reset. The three structures  that I would much like to keep around are as follows:

1: My nether fortress farm, as well as the 128 block radius area around said farm that I mob proofed (this took weeks)

2: a small construction that fits perfectly in 1 chunk, that if deleted may result in accidentally crashing the server

3: The Eldrin Blaze farm, while not mine, I think is really nice, as such, I would much enjoy if this farm is preserved as well.

Given that the 1.16 update makes the nether a more varied place, where building an interesting village is viable, I am fully in favor of a reset, on the contingency that I can get assistance in preserving some of my (and others') hard work.
@luisc99 what do you think about the proposed 'compromise'? is it viable?
also pretty sure we can only preserve places you own should this reset, but if the owner (i think luis lel) says sure then ya, all your stuff is on the table if luis thinks we can make it work

I remember hearing something from another server where they had reset all the chunks in the world that had not been loaded for more than an hour in total (cumulative) to reduce disk space. I think this, if implementable, would be a useful way to keep older, more developed areas intact while freeing up some other places near spawn without much infrastructure.. While I would have no idea how to implement it (@luisc99 might be able to help some), I would think that this could be a good way of striking a balance of sorts.

General Discussion / Re: 1.15 or 1.16?
« on: 2 April 2020, 11:52:37 AM »
I really would love there to be more variation in the nether (certainly more than there is currently). Going from 1.14>1.15>1.16 would require a lot more work (presumably) and there would not be many features different in 1.15 compared to 1.14 other than optimizations - I believe the only major change in 1.15 was beehives. Unless the work required to go from 1.14>1.15>1.16 is not too much more than that to go straight to 1.16, I would say that going straight to 1.16 would be best.

General Discussion / Re: New World?
« on: 15 March 2020, 03:52:06 AM »
That would be arousing, I think we should just do one warp point though, I don't want to be the only on several million blocks away from everything.
Expanding on this idea, maybe open a new one each time there is a major update.
I really like this. A minecraft world is 30mil * 30mil; this is easily enough so that we could keep all old villages and structures active and able to be built on as well create new things. I think it would also really help with getting some more players online and new players to stay longer.

« on: 18 November 2018, 09:24:34 PM »
I am going to be hosting a building competition over the next few weeks (Times will be posted below). Every person participating will be able to decide on a theme for themselves, as well as terrain that will fit said theme. Each person will have approximately an hour to build something that fits the theme on that terrain. Once finished, all the people who have built as well as anyone else interested will be able to vote on their favourites. I will provide books for you to fill out, please put each person in the order that you like their builds. Voting will be open for 3 days, once the voting is finished, I will put the top 3 people on the forums as well as give them prizes in game.

I thought that this update would be rather underwhelming, turns out, it's anything but. One of the most interesting updates the Mojang has made in a long time.

General Discussion / Builders needed for PVP arena
« on: 2 June 2018, 09:11:23 PM »
 I am currently working on a new PVP arena  (Some of you may know about it already). In a couple of months, I intend to host a variety of PVP events within it. Before I can, however, I need to finish the terrain of it. This includes some smoothening of the hills and the building of a spruce forest. In total, I need around 500 custom spruce trees as well as a few mountains built for the area.
If anyone is interested in helping me or just wants to observe it, please reply to this post or ask me ingame. Payment will be discussed one on one.

As great as this is, I sadly can't run VCV on it. The idea was it runs snapshot servers with IRC as a sub-process in the background, so we could upgrade VCV while retaining IRC. However, I asked our host if this is allowed, and they said no :(

I'm open to running VCV on snapshots if we want. I *might* be able to get IRC working in a different way, maybe, but it'd be harder
