When I was in high school, one holidays my mum drove me and my brother to visit our grandparents. Perth to Melbourne ~3000km, done in 3 days. Then of course there is the return drive too  :O

On the way there we ended up getting stuck on the "90 mile straight" and had to cross it at night. I shit you not, you would see headlights in the distance, and 5 minutes later actually pass the car.

Long drives suck.
