NOTICE: To Register for Parliament, post a reply to the thread in this link: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=22.0

-------
PARLIAMENT VOTE #15
An Act to add AmethystCacheCompactor. A plugin to allow for more compact storage via the use of disks.

If 'yes' has majority, ACC will be added to the server.
If 'no', the plugin will not be added.

All Members of Parliament may vote.
For the act to pass, a majority of voting MPs must vote in favour.
The poll will run for approximately 4 days, unless there is a clear victor or an ongoing debate, in which case it may be extended or shortened.

-------

Link to a somewhat outdated plugin page. Newer versions have little information on the web, but that covers the most important bits. The things that have changed are mostly behind-the-scenes, so you won't notice them. I'll make a proper forum post explaining how the newest version works, if the vote gets passed.

This is a plugin which allows storage "networks" to be created, where you items are stored in a "disk", and can be accessed by chests linked to the disk. Storage space is limited to the size of the disk used, and the number of different items that can be stored per disk is also limited. Different tiers of storage disks are avaliable for an increased cost, and can be easily added to your networks. You can also put items into your network automatically via hoppers, from things like furnaces or farms.

The plugin obeys all rules that normal chests follow, meaning you can lock them with a lockette sign if placed on each access point, and you won't be able to use them if you're not a member of the village.

If you want any more details or have any questions, feel free to ask them and I'll try my best to answer.

Discuss.

The simplified explanation:

This is a way to easily store a lot more things in a smaller space. You won't need quite such a big army of chests. You do it with discs.
Compare with a large chest being able to hold 3,456 total items (54 slots x 64 per stack).

If you think this would be a welcome addition to the server, vote yes. If you think this will degrade the server in some way, vote no.
Either way, if you state your reasons, it would be welcome.

So, say i was in one village and i wanted to access my storage room thats in another village could i?

Assuming all my chests have these discs
Come get your potions at Shadow's Potion Emporium! Located in Lilypad Forest, Gerelskovy and Jungle bay. They're the cheapest potions on the server!

Livid is correct. The disk is like hard drive space if you like, and you can only access it with chests connected to it. You can hook up multiple chests though by connecting them with glass "wires". But no, you can't access your chests from another village.

I'll try and get a picture to show you. It'll be easier to explain that way

Here's that picture.

These are two different networks. One has D1, D2, C1, C2 and C3 in it, the other has D3, C4 and C5 in it.

The disks themselves are stored in droppers. Each of the droppers has a storage disk. The chests are used to view what is inside the disks. You can link up as many chests you like with glass, so all of the chests in each network can access everything. As you can see, the colour of glass doesn't matter, but regular old glass doesn't work.

You can also see C3 is locked with a lockette. This means people can't access that chest, but can use any of the other chests in the network instead, so you'll need to lock all chests and droppers for it to be safe. If someone isn't a member of your village, they won't be able to access it, regardless if it's locked or not. Just like normal chests.

C5 also has a hopper on it. This can be used to put things in your network, from things like farms or furnaces. They can't be used to take things out.

Any more questions let me know

But no, you can't access your chests from another village.
After testing this plugin:
You can use remotes to access your chest from another place, known as remote disc access. You must place a hopper above the chest and place the remote in the hopper to link the remote. You can then right-click the remote anywhere to access the contents of the chest.

There is a short learning curve with this plugin, but it is usable.
<[VIP] ~Shadow> i'm fairly certain that he wasn't the first to use that greeting
<[VIP] ~BeastofBurden> how can you be certain
<[VIP] ~BeastofBurden> or even fairly certain
<[VIP] ~Shadow> and i'm fairly certain that there's a 40% chance I used that before him
<[VIP] ~BeastofBurden> 40% doesnt sound fairly certain to me
<[VIP] ~Shadow> you misunderstand
<[VIP] ~Shadow> I am fairly certain that it is a 40% chance, not a fairly certain 40% cahnce

This is true, but very OP, and can't be locked easily, so we decided to remove it. It takes away from the survival aspect if people can access every item they own from anywhere in the world. Thanks for testing it though, nice to hear you're giving it a go :)
