Throwing this out there, to see what everyone thinks about it:
I like the idea of opening a new warp point with every update, and I reckon it could be combined in with the biome idea. However, how would people feel about starting out with a few warps initially, as a way of "retroactively" opening them for recent updates?
Open from the start:
- There's a nice big ocean in one of the spots I have in mind, with lots of cute little islands, which could be fun to build in. We could have this open from the get-go, thanks to the 1.13 update
- There's a large ice/snow area too, which was recently updated in 1.10 I believe, which would be nice for players trying to get somewhere colder
- To celebrate the new bamboo, parrots, and pandas, there's a relatively large jungle in a nice location, which would be fun to build in
- Finally, there's a spot near some flower forests, plains, and deserts, which would be nice as a combo of the 1.14 (village and pillage) and 1.15 (bees in flowers) updates.
If people are on board with this idea, I'd also suggest opening all of these as a grand "welcome to 1.16" event, so the nether at all of these points is new too, from the 1.16 update. Hopefully that won't take too long to come
I've had a look at Mojang's roadmap for the future, and they seem to be continuing on with their trend of doing biome-themed updates, and there's 5 major ones listed on the wiki, which I think we can combine in to 4 for the future.
To open later:
- Their next update in 2020 is likely to be focusing on mountain biomes, adding goats, snow, and better terrain gen. There's a spot I've got in mind for this, which hopefully we'd open towards the end of the year when that update comes out.
- Beyond that, there's 4 more biomes they plan to do, but they don't specify the order. One is the badlands (mesa), where they plan to add vultures, tumbleweed, and a new cacti. Again, there's a good spot planned out for that to open when the update drops
- Swamps are on their list too, and they might get frogs, alongside a new type of tree and boat
- Also on their list is a plan to update deserts and savannahs, but due to the way the world generates I think it'd be beneficial to wait these out and combine them into one section, and open it when the second update comes out. There's a spot I have in mind which is desert and savannah for as far as the eye can see, and those two updates could add palm trees, boabab trees, oases, termites, meerkats, and ostriches.
I know I said a lot, and it does depend on Mojang sticking to their plan, but how's that for an idea?
Open 4 areas with the 1.16 update, taking you out to places which have been enhanced in recent updates. These will have a decent mix of biomes for people to spread out in and build where they want. Then, over the next few updates, open another 4 areas for the biomes which will be updated in the future. Should any other changes come about that we're not expecting, we can adjust these plans to add new areas.
(I've mentioned the 1.16 update, it looks like it'll be released soon, and if we're doing this idea, it might be worth going straight to that rather than spending a couple of weeks on 1.15. I may change my mind on this though)
