7-Zip (Library/Archive/File Management Program)The New Minecraft LauncherYour Mods of Choice
In this example, I'll be installing Forge to minecraft 1.5.2:
- Open your start menu, and type "%appdata%". Hit enter.
- A window should open up. Open the folder ".minecraft", then "versions"
- Next, copy the folder titled "1.5.2", and make a copy of it in the "versions" folder. Rename the new folder to "1.5.2 modded". Your versions folder should look like this:
- Open the folder called "1.5.2 modded", and add the word "modded" to the title of the two files inside of it. When you're done, the files should look like this:
- Next, open the file that says "1.5.2 modded.json" with notepad. In this example, I'm using notepad++. Change the "id:" from "1.5.2" to "1.5.2 modded" seen in the screenshot below:
Save this file, and close out of it.
- Navigate to "1.5.2 modded", and open "1.5.2 modded.jar" with 7-Zip. Next, open Forge with 7-Zip. Drag and drop the contents of Forge into "1.5.2 modded.jar". Lastly, delete the folder "META-INF" (you can find this within "1.5.2 modded.jar". Your "1.5.2 modded.jar" file should look like this:
- Finally, open the new minecraft launcher and create a "New Profile". Follow the image below to see how to set up your modded launcher.
- Launch the game, and everything should work out just fine! If you have mods that need to be placed in the "mods" folder (the mod developer will tell you), then continue putting those mods in the "mods" folder.
