FLoB-athon Charity Event!
« on: 1 March 2014, 07:10:27 AM »
A YouTube LP'er runs a series called Far Lands or Bust, where he aims to walk in legit survival to the far lands in beta 1.7.3, before they were removed. He has being doing this for the past 3 years, and in doing so has raised over $250,000 for ChildsPlay Charity. As an incentive for reaching the goal, he does not reveal his co-ordinates unless there is some special occasion going on.

Today, from 12 noon to 12 midnight GMT (7AM-7PM Canada time) he is running a live stream of this event, and hopes to raise money for charity over the 12 hour period he is doing so. I raise this up because if you wish to donate to ChildsPlay Charity via his site at www.farlandsorbust.com this would be a good time, or simply watch his stream at www.twitch.tv/kurtjmac/.

Just spreading the news of the event, as it is a charity event and any support is support, so join in :D

#flobathon

Also, you could win prizes :D

Sidenote, his turtle he had for 22-ish years died, so he wants cheering up a bit!

Ehh I rather donate to something like cancer research. Why not donate to help with research of whatever is killing the kids, instead of buying video games they can play at the hospital :p

Apple products cause cancer. Also child/slave labour. :P

Anyways, ChildsPlay is a cool charity idea because Kids' Hospitals can be scary places, and often the kids in there are long-term patients who live there for a few years or more and don't get to live the typical life of a kid. I'm sure life in a hospital is brightened when people from around the world pitch in to give you toys and games to take your mind off of the hospital. Here in Toronto, the Maple Leafs often visit them (and are sometimes the ones who deliver the gifts)

Though Airbo has good raisin. Many scientists are in need of funding to help cure diseases, and many ailments are totally preventable with a little bit of money.
Preventable healthcare means less kids need to reside in hospitals in the first place, especially places that do not have public healthcare like many developing countries (and... the United States... for some reason.)

Perth, my city  :D, has an annual telethon (called Telethon funnily enough) to raise money for children's cancer research. I just Wikipedia'd it and apparently it's the highest fundraising telethon in the world. I find this amazing, Australia has roughly 23 million people, last year this telethon raised $20.7 million- almost a dollar for every person.

America is weird, the politicians are always going on about fiscal responsibility and reducing the deficit. Then they want to cut health spending, which leads to more preventable diseases and greatly increases the federal burden on healthcare costs.
