I'll take a look at some chat logs, but I suspect that in some instances, it might not be as random as you are claiming it is. As far as the random /killing and /smiting, I'll talk to Ako.
As unfortunate as it may be, a staff member doesn't exactly *have* to help you in-game, in the same way that a police officer doesn't *have* to assist you if you need help from one. It's their job, and not doing so could result in a problem that might get them in trouble if it turns out they should have helped prevent it, but there's not exactly an on-the-books law about them being required to assist you in some form or another.
CJ, like other admins, is also allowed to give his own personal opinion about a ban or other punishment appeal in whatever capacity he chooses. The beauty of having a staff of many talents is that CJ is harsher than some, perhaps, but there are other admins to balance him out in the ultimate decision. A ban is a group decision for the staff, just as anything else is; so it's not necessarily a bad thing that he votes against you all the time, it's just his prerogative.
And finally, regarding the nether issue, I will again review the chat logs, but I suspect he was possibly referring to something else. We'll see for sure.
