Do NOT log onto server

It looks like creeper host got hacked and banning people I am keeping the server off untill it is fixed but for help do not log in or you will get banned.

I logged on, not banned, BUT I spawned in a room full of TNT and people. They promptly killed me and then I was kicked. Just updating what is going on.

I experienced a similiar situation to Witch, but I think the explosion kicked me because my client couldn't handle it before it killed me.

So... quick ?. Is there any way to repair the server or is there going to be any kind of data loss? I'm def. a MC newb so I have no idea how these servers work. Also, is there any way to prevent these asshats from hacking it again?

To answer your first question, shutting down the server is exactly that - a way to prevent data loss and corruption. As long as the server is off, the hackers can't do anything to it, because it's not powered on, presumably.

To answer your second question, I would say that would be upon the owners of the hosting company - it is not the responsibility of a customer of a hosting company to provide it's own security - that's one of the reasons subscribers pay for their services. Stability is expected.

Thank you for the info. Just pissed that someone would feel the need to hack a game server. Very lame. Also disappointed that the hard work that all of us have put into it may be jacked up because of these guys. Oh well, looking forward to it coming back online and getting back to work. Thanks again!

Also I stopped the server and kept stopping it. So not much should of been lost if any as they were more focused on banning then anything else.

Update: we're doing backups and stuff. It doesn't look like they really hurt our files.
