Belgium's main airport was just bombed. 28 people died, more injured. ;( The train station near the apartment i stayed in was bombed. ;(
People think this is because of the most recent capture of the surviving bomber in the paris attacks.

:(

That's really sad but so is how Turkey is getting bombarded by terrorist attacks in their largest city, Istanbul. My uncle was staying in Istanbul for a few days and we were all really tensed.

Yes, I am very sorry that happened, but there was a topic for the Istanbul attacks, and attacks on the capital of Europe are really blown up by the media, so I wanted people who didn't know about the Belgium attacks to hear about it. I hope your uncle is okay, too.

Arrived safely in Bangladesh, but I really wouldn't call Brussels the capital of Europe. It does host the European Parliament, true, but New York hosts the UN headquarters, you don't call New York the capital of the world.

No, because Captial of Europe sounds like it could be a thing but Capital of the World sounds like some bigheadded guy sitting on a chair wearing a cloak declaring himself the leader of all

If you wanted a definition of Capital of Europe, you'd get Brussles. If you wanted a definition of Capital of the World, you'd get New York.

Kosovo is not in the UN, neither is Taiwan or Palestine. Depending on your definition of the UN, the Vatican City (or Holy Sea, whatever) isn't in the UN. Similarly, depending on how you define country, places such as Hong Kong aren't in the UN, and neither are states under Free Association, like Greenland, Niue, Tokelau, Guam and many other of the US/UK/France/Other Countries colonial ownership of land.

The UN is not the entire world. It's most of it, which contains enough to be classed as the whole world.

The UN is not the entire world. It's most of it, which contains enough to be classed as the whole world.

The UN contains all recognized countries. Taiwan doesn't view itself as independent. The President even said: "No Independence, No war, No unification." Kosovo needs some more recognition, but I don't see why it doesn't have an observer status. Palestine and the Holy See are in the UN as observer states, so technically in the UN. Hong Kong really isn't a country, it's really a part of China, which is represented within the UN. Free Association countries are still not independent, they're part of their parent country, which are represented within the UN. Colonial ownership territories for the most part want to stay with their host country, like those islands in the Caribbean who belong to the Netherlands, which grants them full EU citizenship. Furthermore, calling Brussels the 'capital' of the EU would be a bit too much, it's the de facto capital, sure, but it's not official. I'm pretty sure most states would be opposed to that sort of centralization of the EU.

On another note, the polls for Britain exiting the EU are now at 50/50. That's quite terrifying actually. Thoughts?

You should know by now I'm all for staying in. I'm fine if people say we should leave and have a valid point to argue that. What worries me is the people who have no clue and are being brainwashed by the media to think the EU means nothing but immigrants, terrorism and people stealing benefits, without actually knowing what the EU does for them that helps them...

Are you here just to start an argument?
Also,
Abkhazia, Azawad, the Gaza Strip, Kosovo, Nagorno-Karabakh, Northern Cyprus, Somaliland, South Ossetia, Taiwan, Transnistria, and the West Bank are not members of the UN so it doesn't consist of the entire world.

Where do you get your information from?

Jeez man, I just said it does... Abkhazia is not recognized by any country, Gaza and West Bank are Palestine and Palestine is an observer state in the UN. Northern Cyprus is a puppet state of Turkey, Somaliland is not widely recognized and not technically independent and I explained before why Taiwan doesn't qualify.

How about I just say this: Every single region of the world is represented in the UN somehow via themselves as an independent country or via their host country. There is not a single region which goes unrepresented except maybe Western Sahara. Maybe they're not well represented, but somehow they are.

Livid, you partially explained this earlier: One of the biggest exceptions is Taiwan (Republic of China), which is a nation that is recognized by some UN participants, but not by the UN. Mainland China (People's Republic of China) has bullied the UN and most major countries out of recognizing the ROC, as both nations claim sovereignty over all of China, and the PRC don't like that too much. The result is that Taiwan is actually not very well represented, which is quite the stain on the UN.

...

But you guys are really splitting hairs here. "No Brussels isn't the capital of Europe, it's the capital of the EU" *bickering*. I think you guys need to give eachother a gram or two of respect if you're interested in having a productive conversation. Not everyone speaks exactly perfectly, you can cut eachother some slack. Want to clarify something and impart some knowledge? Do so without the pointless animosity.

Look at this hypocritical shit:

Yes it does.
Are you here just to start an argument?
...

And then after Livid had replied, bob comes back with:
You failed to mention Kosovo.

Are YOU trying to start an argument?

Take it down a notch, it's just a conversation, isn't it?

I just reread another one of his posts, and I see he mentioned Kosovo. My apologies.

I think "Hypocritical Shit" is a little extreme, I was replying to what he said.
