Hey everyone,
With all the changes 1.14 brings to the behind-the-scenes of the game, it's possible to add content to the game in a way that's never been possible before, via the use of resource packs. I've got a lot of cool ideas in varying states of development, but before I try and add anything to VC, I need to know how popular the use of a resource pack would be. To figure this out, I'm running an experiment. Next time you join the server, it will offer you a resource pack when you log in. At the moment, this is empty (
proof), and it just to see who accepts it. I've got a plugin which keeps a log of whether it's accepted or rejected, and I'll use these numbers to decide if it's viable to add content this way. I know some people don't like resource packs, so even if we adopted this, I would never make drastic changes to vanilla, only use it to add new things, or make minor tweaks here and there. Vanilla had a texture overhaul in 1.14 anyway, which makes me think this is the perfect time to try this scheme.
All I ask from you is to do what you want to do.
If you'd use a resource pack from VC, accept it when it's offered. If you wouldn't, reject it. It's as simple as that. If there's a resource pack you absolutely want to have priority over ours, that's fine, you can move ours further down the priority list in the resource pack menu. If you choose to accept it, there's nothing you have to do. The game has had the ability for a long time for this, and it'll download it, enable it when you join the server, disable it when you leave, and keep it up-to-date, without any effort from you.
I'll run this experiment for a few weeks with this empty resource pack, to get a good idea of numbers. Please feel free to leave comments here about it, including any ideas.
