CM Term Length and CM Team
« on: 9 April 2020, 02:33:44 PM »
Recently I have been talking to other staff and I would like to introduce an idea that Akomine, Cyphur, and I have been developing. Given that the CM terms are almost never the 2 months that they are supposed to be (Mine has been about 5, Hobbes' was about 2 years), and since a vote every two months isn't necessarily required if the CM is performing well. The Indefinite term is already basically a reality, as the only time a new vote starts is when the MP's get together and suggest one, such as this current vote for the 6th CM. This is already tje procedure that is put in place to vote out a CM in the middle of their term, so relatively little would change. It is for this reason that I suggest, along with others, that the CM position be officially indefinite, effective as of the 6th term.

In addition, through the course of my term, the 5th, I have established a team that has been helping me build events. This has been very beneficial in building large new events and more complicated ones (such as End of Life and the ongoing development of the HG map). I would like to suggest that going forward, the CM can elect two members to be on a "CM Team" with them. This would formalize the team that I have made, and would allow people to know who this team is.

Both of these are up the discussion however, and I would love to hear your opinions below. The CM is made to serve the community, and thus the position is in your hands.

I think the idea of having a team to assist the CM is an awesome idea, full endorsement.

But I'm gonna echo my concerns I mentioned in the other thread.

I think having to go through a process to replace the CM each time really restricts democracy and can create potential problems and "drama" between people. It isn't always a personal issue to want a new CM election, but in this scenario, it can feel a lot more personal than the current status quo of elections triggering every so often, even if its more infrequent than the "official" 2 months.
VC always has been like this. It has ebbs and flows, just like my menstrual periods

I fully endorse these ideas.

As for the concern about it seeming personal if someone wants a new election, I get it. I kindof like the idea of like 1-3 players requesting a new election at any point after 2 months of the term has passed, thus triggering an election.

Perhaps to ease your concern, we could provide a method to do this anonymously so there's no hard feelings to be placed?

Like a little forum form or something that simply says "I request a new CM election", and if 3 of those come in (or a number we choose), boom, election triggered.

Removal:
1. After two months, a CM's term will expire and a new election will be held. They can run again if they choose.
2. At any time, MPs may put forward their signatures motioning to remove the current CM. If 5 MPs submit their signatures, a vote will be triggered. If the vote passes, the CM will be removed and a new election held.
3. The Staff may remove the CM at any time with a Staff vote.

According to the current rules it's five, but I'm open to a reduction to 3.

I like this idea a lot, and it is definitely something we could do.

Would the team (the two ppl appointed by the CM to help) get anything in return, as they are still putting in a lot of work and effort, its only fair they too, like the CM, receive something in return whether it be a CM-Team tag or 100k (if im correct in the belief that the CM gets 250k)

I was pushing to get a CM Team tag (maybe CT) or something similar, so people know they are on the team. I'm sure they could also get some type of monetary reward, not sure on how much though. 100k sounds fair to me. However pay is another thing that we would have to look at, as there would no longer be an "end" if a CM is doing a good job. Do they get paid upon dismissal? Or should they get paid every 2-4 months? This is something we would have to discuss here.

I like everything that has been said and proposed, in terms of a team. As for how long a CM term lasts, we could either look to extend it, to maybe every 4 or 6 months, or if a term was everlasting until 3 (or whatever number of ppl it needs) vote for a re-election, it would NEED to be anonymous for the reasons stated previously (it could be taken personally, thus creating unneeded drama)

Also, if you do choose to hack VC in whatever method, I can get your IPs from the server log, and with more coding knowledge than most people here, I could easily and more importantly legally hack you back. And if you hack VC, I'll be cross. Don't try it.

I agree with ako that there should be a way to trigger a new vote cause I don't really like the idea of the role being permanent. As far as helpers I don't think they should be paid or rewarded really as its their choice if they want to help with projects and events and I don't really think a tag is necessary either. I'm really not even too fond of the idea of having helpers but I'm curious as to what perms they might be given? I would say /i and fly would be enough to help out with most events.

huh, did not know dis. disregard

also, i dont know how i feel about just giving helpers perms. would it make it easier? sure. but the cm is chosen democratically, whereas the proposed helpers could be anybody handpicked by the cm. someone suggested that the helpers should need staff permission for these perms (unless i grossly misunderstood them) and i agree with that, given that as of right now this wouldn't impede any progress whatsoever

If I remember correctly, this is how the current "CM team" works: its a loosely organized group of people who collaborate on CM events and provide feedback. We have a separate server for developing events, where we build stuff in that server and send maps to luis.

In my opinion, the only thing that should really change here is possibly some more recognition for those in the CM team, and a bit more formalization. To use an analogy with the US government, the CM Team is a bit like the President's cabinet: A handpicked group of advisors, picked by the president to assist him/her in areas where the president may be shortcoming. This is exactly how the current CM team functions. The CM has a group of assistants who help where the CM cant. This is part of how we have such cool big events, like the End of Life event, or being able to make a massive Hunger Games arena. That was only possible because we had >1 person working on both.

As for giving the CM team perms, I don't think too many perms are needed. If we were being honest, map development would probably still happen on a separate server, given that VC isn't the fastest WE wise. What I think is needed is an understanding that, like the CM, temporary perms will be needed to help run events, and possibly the members of the team could be given something basic, like fly.

Also, to take another leaf out of the US Government's book, I definitely think that any official appointments to the CM team should require staff approval as well. Helps provide a check on the CM in terms of just appointing whomever.

Lol next time don't go places you shouldn't be.
