Looking at this plugin's bukkit page, I notice that it says that it is out of date and not to use it. So that's a good reason to be against it already. However, let's consider the idea of a tree chopping plugin in and of itself:
I think a tree chopping plugin, such as the
Timber plugin wouldn't be a good fit for VillageCraft. My biggest issue is I honestly think they make the game too easy. One of the great things you can do in Minecraft is fell a jungle giant, the largest tree in the game. To that end, it takes time and investment. It's not a four-block-chop & done situation like many tree-felling plugins make it. You need to either glide to the top and chop all the way down, or chop up the tree in a spiral, then at the top reverse and go back the way down, cleaning up the missed logs. I think it's good to require some significant investment of time to gathering an equally significant amount of wood.
On another note, In discussions with Naomi, one of the most prolific forest removers on the server, she has expressed in the past that if VillageCraft were to have some form of tree cutting plugin, it is unlikely there would be many forests left in the world, as she would happily chop them all down to pass time.
Also as far as timber plugins are concerned I do NOT recommend the timber plugin I linked earlier in this post. It was used purely for example. Due to some poor coding on the author's part, it ignores worldguard and the like and should not be used.
When considering tree felling I think the best implementation of it I've seen is tree felling in MCMMO, as it is a good way to allow tree felling, while not making it overpowered. Firstly you need to grind a high enough woodcutting to be able to use the skill. Secondly, it's not on all the time, it's an activated ability, meaning you can activate it, chop down 1 or two trees, and back to chopping the traditional way. I think this method is much better, as it puts reasonable limits on chopping down entire trees at once.
