Arena Fun 12/28/12
« on: 28 December 2012, 12:47:16 PM »
as we all know the arena is a kill zone. if you enter, you might as well be ready to die, and lose all ur stuff

that said, at around 12:30 EST (give or take 15mis) i was in the arena killing off several players that kept on /back ing into the arena and taking their stuff etc. now i understand that there are no rules about that, but i do think that it is extremely douche. i basically lost a full prot4 suit due to players just coming back and punching me, as well as some players throwing pots / shooting arrows from the walls, but instantly backing out of pvp zone.

im not sure what to ask for, but i do think that if i win in the arena, there should be a hold on the dropped items where only the winner can access them.

please post your thoughts on the matter, and lets try to keep this thread flame free

Personally, the whole reason I never even get close to the arena is I don't want to lose my stuff. In order to have a chance in PVP, one needs a full prot 4 suit and probably a sharp 4+ sword. What's the point of risking that?

I honestly think the arena should just be FOR FUN. Not FOR KEEPS. So I guess that means I'm on the completely different side of the fence from you XD

However, I should add that I think /back killing is extremely douchey. The one time I was in an arena (Kovos' arena) I was fighting a kid. I killed him. I didn't take his stuff or anything. He immediately /back'd and killed me 3 or 4 times.

just for reference, here is an old thread with some slightly similar issues ive had in the past

well among the few rules that do exist, there is an arena rule stating that if you make an arrangement before a battle for example no keeps, the rule is binding, but otherwise there basically are no rules.

i guess there could be a better rule set, but they are hard to enforce

I'm not sure there's currently any real way to enforce either 'Keeps' or 'Not Keeps' other than both players agreeing to it and staff overseeing it.

We could, at least in theory, setup code using RTrigger or VTrigger plugins to disallow the /back command if you get killed in the arena, or add a cooldown to it. That would only be if enough people were having serious issues with it though.

Also, might I suggest that if people are /backing and damaging your armor.. Just leave the arena if there's no staff on to mediate?

the issue is the stuff they are dropping, and trying to sort through it all.

i dont mind leaving usually, but when there is diamond equip lying around, i dont want t o just leave it here

maybe if we had the arena plugin installed and active in all arenas, it would help

the plugin was officially voted in ( http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=519.0 )

the said plugin has an 'End timer' where players can loot what was dropped w/o interference ( http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/pvp-arena/pages/features/ )

all said and done the best way to enforce would prob be when admins are online, but since they are not always online, it is a pain to say the least.

Well, the plugin site is giving me a bad gateway error, but that could be my work's firewall.

If the plugin has an up to date version and doesn't conflict with current plugins I don't see why it couldn't be added.

Air or Ako, this was before my time, do you flea bitten admins know why this wasn't implemented after Parliament vote?

It is a against the rules to be sitting on the wall shooting pots/arrows in then back out.

Also to rune the reason it was not implemented was that it was throwing quite a few null exception errors and various other things.

Figured there was a reason like that.

Thanks CJ!

i sit corrcted. [M], [SM], and [A] work whoever happens to be online tho they seem to be missing at the most inconveniently random times

a pity. i guess its time to start looking through the plugin list maybe there is some other plugin that could help, tho the one air is looking at might be good, rly depends on how it works in practice
