When i attempted to join the server it showed up with
io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information
and on the server list shows up as "can't connect to server"
some things i did to try and fix it include:
- Turning on and off computer
- Logging out and in
- Closing and opening the game
- Disabling firewall
any suggestions on how to fix it?

Make sure you are using Minecraft 1.12.1
Make sure the IP you are connecting to is mc.villagecraft-server.com
Refresh the server browser 2 or 3 times is sometimes needed, and try to connect 2 or 3 times (minecraft is a lil glitchypoo)
Let us know if you need more help.

Hmm, weird. I'm sorry I have to go, but I'll page @luisc99 to see if he can give you some assistance.
Perhaps you could do some googling of that error message in the meantime.

Mojang's Auth servers are/were down, which prevents people from logging in. It seems like they're back up now, but there may be some slight downtime over the next few hours.
If you want, there's a status page on the Mojang help page (help.mojang.com), which has nice coloured smilies to show the status.
One of these days I should get around to making some automated thing show up on the forums if the servers are down

Interesting.
Could you try doing a nslookup and trace route for our IP, and send us a screenshot. I explained how to do that here (http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=4712.msg44099#msg44099) if you need a guide.
Depending on what that comes back with we'll try something else

Yeah, there's some DNS issue there, meaning you're trying to connect to a different IP than what the domain is actually pointing at.
You can change your DNS settings to 8.8.8.8, and that should fix it. I also made a guide to that here (http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=4712.msg44109#msg44109).
Also @Akomine, that's both Virgin Media and BT that's applied some sort of DNS block on our domain. I don't know what it is, but we should look into this. If 2 major UK ISPs are rerouting the mc.vill... subdomain then something's up :/

This is so weird, I'm not exactly sure how to look into this. How are Virgin and BT generally considered in terms of customer service or lack thereof?

Virgin from my experience are pretty good, although the guy who deals with our local area is always available to fix stuff quickly and knows what he's doing, which might be atypical for the country as a whole. They seem pretty good though.
BT I'm not sure about from experience, but apparently they had the highest number of complaints to Ofcom in 2016 (https://www.choose.co.uk/guide/broadband-provider-with-best-customer-service.html), so who knows? Their weird history as a former public company may affect that, especially as everyone sorta-kinda needs to have a BT landline for a phone, regardless of who they get their phone services from.
I tried doing an nslookup through both their DNS servers, but they seem unavailable for people not on their network, so it's hard to verify exactly what's going on
